EFT - Tapping

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique, also know as 'tapping' is commonly referred to as psychological acupressure or acupuncture without the needles!  Developed by EFT founder Gary Craig, EFT is used to release emotional blockages within the body's energy system.

As with many therapies, EFT works on the premise that the body contains energy channels. When energy channels become blocked or unbalanced, this may lead to emotional and physical illness.

Using a blend of tapping and gentle conversation we can work together to  correct these imbalances and regain some sense of harmony.   ‘Tapping’ is proving to be a powerful, well-researched technique.  In the words of Gary Craig, “try it on everything!”

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

EFT incorporates theories from holistic therapies such as acupressure, energy medicine and neuro-linguistic programming.

Many eastern medicine models are founded on the belief that there are channels of energy within the body. It is thought that when these channels (known as meridians) become blocked, energy becomes unbalanced. When this happens, it is thought to lead to physical and emotional symptoms.

In the western world, we are beginning to catch up with the premise that emotional health is imperative to physical health. As well as affecting our health, emotional blocks can lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours. This may result in phobias, anxiety, depression or even addictions.  EFT acknowledges this and combines energy medicine with psychological interventions for a truly holistic approach to health.

In a similar way to acupuncture, EFT looks to release blocked energy by stimulating the meridian points. Rather than using needles however, this therapy uses tapping and/or light pressure. Tapping (using the fingertips) on certain points on the head, face and body, combined with talking through issues and developing positive affirmations to neutralise the emotional block in energy.

What can EFT help with?

A well-known motto within the EFT community is "try it on everything" really does fit. Because this therapy is non-invasive, entirely natural and safe, there is nothing to lose by trying it on any issue from a craving for chocolate biscuits, to migraines, to feeling low or tearful and you just don't know why... and everything in-between.

EFT can offer long-lasting, and in many cases complete relief and release of any issue - old or new!  Below is a small list of issues people commonly turn to EFT for:

Physical & Emotional Wellbeing

There is no health without emotional health - it has long been considered that negative emotions and illness are interlinked. Physical problems create emotional responses and emotional problems often manifest physical symptoms. For this reason, it is important to approach healing in a holistic manner, looking at both emotional and physical energy.

EFT aims to tackle both the negative emotions and unbalanced or blocked energy.

This combination of tapping and stimulating meridian points whilst focusing on an issue (and root causes) enables the energy system to loosen up and 'straighten out'. This is believed to change the body's learnt response or negative emotion.

EFT is easy to learn and can be used very effectively as a self help tool. Working with a qualified AAMET EFT practitioner gives you the confidence to gently work on deep and significant issues in a safe and supported space.

Is EFT safe?

EFT has no known negative side effects, it is non-invasive and is considered very safe.

Basic EFT is easy to learn and a very effective self help tool. Working with a qualified AAMET EFT practitioner we will work together in session on any issue that comes up for you, or have a guided plan to work on.  Plus take time to learn the basic routine, enabling you to continue your good work in between sessions and whenever you need it.

It is important to note that while EFT seems to have supported remarkable changes in many emotional and physical issues to date, it should not be used instead of appropriate medical care. You should always consult your doctor before using any form of self-treatment.
